27mm Valve Shims – 2.00mm to 3.40mm Range What’s Included 1 x 27mm valve shim in the selected thickness 27mm valve shims used to set and adjust valve clearance on engines fitted with shim-type valvetrain systems. These shims suit selected Nissan and Mazda engines including GA16DE, GA16DS, YD25 and Mazda FS, FP and BP series engines. In some cases, incorrect valve clearances may be associated with ticking or tappet noise, however clearance must always be confirmed by measurement. Available Sizes Outside Diameter: 27mm Thickness Range: 2.00mm – 3.40mm Increment: 0.05mm Please select the required thickness before adding to cart. Always confirm required shim size by measurement before ordering. Note: 27mm refers to the nominal bucket size. Actual shim outside diameter will measure slightly under (approx. 26.9mm–27.0mm) to allow correct fit and operating clearance. Ordering Information $8.00 each Minimum order: 5 shims total Thickness sizes may be mixed to make up the minimum quantity Engines Nissan GA16DE 1.6Lt DOHC 16 valve Nissan GA16DS 1.6Lt DOHC 16 valve Nissan YD25DDT / YD25DDTi / YD25ETi 2.5Lt DOHC 16 valve Mazda FS / FSDE 2.0Lt DOHC 16 valve Mazda FP / FPDE 1.8Lt DOHC 16 valve Mazda BP / BPT / BPD / BP18DT 1.8Lt DOHC 16 valve Important: Please ensure your engine uses 27mm valve shims. Always confirm engine code, shim outside diameter and specifications before ordering. Part Number VLS27 Direct replacement 27mm valve shims suitable for selected Nissan and Mazda engines. Suitable for valve clearance adjustment during servicing, repair or engine rebuild work where shim-type valvetrain components are used. Technical Information Valve shims adjust valve clearance by changing the thickness between the camshaft and bucket. Correct valve clearance is important to ensure the valve seats correctly and can transfer heat into the cylinder head. This is particularly important on exhaust valves, where heat is transferred through the valve seat when the valve is closed. As a general guide, valve clearances are commonly set around the mid to upper range of the manufacturer’s specification depending on engine condition, use and wear. Engines operating on LPG may experience increased valve seat wear. Clearance is often considered carefully within specification for these applications. Important: Valve clearance must always be checked and set in accordance with the relevant OEM specifications and procedures. Measuring Valve Clearance Measure all valve clearances before removing any components Ensure camshaft is positioned correctly for measurement, typically with the lobe on the base circle Refer to the OEM manual for the correct checking procedure Record all measurements clearly Compare measured clearances against the manufacturer’s specifications Shim Identification and Marking Keep all shims in order during removal and mark their original position. Exhaust: 1E, 2E, 3E etc Inlet: 1I, 2I, 3I etc This allows correct tracking and the possibility of reuse or swapping where required. Working Out Required Shim Size If clearance is below the minimum specification, a thinner shim is required. If clearance is above the maximum specification, a thicker shim is required. Example (for calculation purposes only) This example is provided to demonstrate the shim selection process only. The clearance values shown are not specific to any engine and may not apply to your application. Current shim: 2.70mm Measured clearance: 0.15mm Specified clearance (example only): 0.20mm – 0.30mm In this example, the measured clearance is below the specification, so a thinner shim is required. The 2.70mm shim would typically be replaced with approximately 2.55mm – 2.65mm depending on the intended final setting and the available shim increments. As a basic guide, new shim size can be estimated from the old shim size adjusted by the clearance difference. If measured clearances are significantly outside the expected range, this may indicate an underlying issue such as wear in valve train components or valve seat recession. Important: This example is provided as a guide only to demonstrate the calculation process. It does not represent the correct specifications for your engine. Always confirm the correct valve clearance specifications and procedures using the OEM manual for your exact engine before selecting shim size. Valve Train Noise Tappet or ticking noise is not always caused by incorrect valve clearance. In some cases, the noise may be caused by wear in related valve train components, oil supply issues, or another mechanical noise being mistaken for valve train noise. Camshaft wear Bucket wear Valve tip wear Oil supply issues or blocked oil feeds General valve train wear Other engine or accessory noise being mistaken for valve train noise Do not assume valve clearance adjustment is required without proper measurement and inspection. Important Information Important: The information provided is intended as a general guide only. Valve clearance settings must always be determined by accurate measurement and in accordance with the relevant OEM specifications and procedures. Engine condition, wear, production changes and application may affect final settings. Vehicle applications, engine references and technical information are provided as a guide only and may be subject to change. Variations may occur between models, engine revisions and production dates. It is the responsibility of the installer to confirm correct fitment, measurements, procedures and specifications prior to installation. OzWIDE Engine Parts accepts no responsibility for incorrect installation, measurement errors, or adjustments made outside manufacturer specifications. * Pictures are for illustration purposes only.
